Description
After the degree in Agricultural Sciences (1984) and the PhD (1992) I became University Researcher (1992), Associate Professor (2005) and since 2015 Full Professor for the scientific-disciplinary sector “General arboriculture and tree cultivation”. I teach Biology of Grapevines for the degree in Viticulture and Oenology and for the master’s degree in Viticultural and Oenological Sciences at the University of Milan. My research activity is mainly aimed at the themes of the physiology of ripening and oenological quality of grapes, the evaluation of the territorial suitability for viticulture, the genetic improvement of rootstocks, the characterization and conservation of vine germplasm. Among the international activities I like to mention the role of Chair of the COST action FA1003 “East-West Collaboration for Grapevine Diversity Exploration and Mobilization of Adaptive Traits for Breeding” (2010-2015). I am the author of over one hundred scientific publications, mainly dedicated to the vine and viticulture on the topics of eco-physiology of fruit ripening and quality, the relationship between environmental resources and viticulture, genetic resources and mineral nutrition.
